The Snowman Trek – The Ultimate Himalayan Challenge is Bhutan’s most legendary and demanding trek — often hailed as one of the toughest treks in the world.
Stretching across the high Himalayas along Bhutan’s northern frontier with Tibet, this journey crosses eleven high mountain passes (over 4,500 m), remote glacial valleys, and some of the most spectacular alpine landscapes on Earth.
Designed for seasoned adventurers, this extended version of the trek also includes extra cultural sightseeing days in Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha, allowing you to acclimatize while experiencing Bhutan’s rich cultural heart before heading into the wilderness.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Paro – The Valley of the Thunder Dragon
Arrive at Paro International Airport where your guide will greet you.
Visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, National Museum (Ta Dzong), and stroll around traditional Paro town.

Day 2: Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)
Begin your adventure with a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, clinging to a cliff 900m above the valley.
Return to Paro and relax in the evening.

Day 3: Paro – Thimphu Sightseeing
Drive to Thimphu (1.5 hrs). Visit Buddha Dordenma, Memorial Chorten, Folk Heritage Museum, and Tashichho Dzong.
Evening leisure in Thimphu’s cafés or handicraft market.

Day 4: Thimphu – Punakha via Dochula Pass
Drive across Dochula Pass (3,100 m) with 108 stupas and panoramic Himalayan views.
Descend to Punakha Valley, visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, and hike to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility).

Day 5: Punakha – Gasa – Start of the Adventure
Drive to Gasa, the gateway to the Snowman Trek, through lush forests and mountain valleys.
Visit the 17th-century Gasa Dzong, perched dramatically above the Mo Chhu River.

Day 6: Gasa – Koena
Trek through bamboo forests and mountain streams to reach Koena, a yak herders’ campsite.

Day 7: Koena – Laya
Climb gradually to Bale La Pass (3,900 m), then descend to Laya, one of Bhutan’s highest settlements.

Day 8: Rest Day in Laya
A well-deserved rest and acclimatization day.

Day 9: Laya – Rhodophu
Climb steadily through alpine meadows and yak pastures to Rhodophu.

Day 10: Rhodophu – Narethang
Ascend to the high-altitude plateau below Gangla Karchung.

Day 11: Narethang – Tarina (via Gangla Karchung Pass 5,320 m)
Cross the highest pass of the trek with breathtaking Himalayan panoramas before descending to Tarina Valley.

Day 12: Tarina – Woche
Descend along rivers and cross forests to the small Woche village.

Trek through forests and valleys following the Pho Chhu River, reaching Lhedi, a quaint settlement with views of Table Mountain.

Day 14: Lhedi – Thanza
Pass traditional villages and yak herder camps as you approach Thanza, the largest village in Lunana.

Day 15: Rest Day in Thanza
A rest day for acclimatization and exploring Thanza.
Meet locals, visit yak herder huts, or hike to surrounding ridges for panoramic views of Table Mountain and Gangkhar Puensum.

Day 16: Thanza – Tshorim
Gradual ascent through glacial valleys and yak pastures toward Tshorim Lake, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful high-altitude lakes.

Day 17: Tshorim – Geshe Woma (via Guphula Pass 5,230 m)
Climb over the Guphula Pass, with spectacular views of Gangkhar Puensum, Bhutan’s highest mountain.

Day 18: Geshe Woma – Warathang
Descend through open valleys and yak camps to Warathang.

Day 19: Warathang – Dur Tshachu (Hot Springs)
A long descent through forests to reach Dur Hot Springs, known for their healing properties.
Overnight: Camp near hot springs

Day 20: Dur Tshachu – Tshochenchen
A gradual climb through lush forests and alpine meadows to Tshochenchen, your last high camp.

Day 21: Tshochenchen – Sephu – End of Trek
Descend to Sephu village near Trongsa, completing the epic Snowman route.
Drive to Punakha for rest and a warm shower.

Leisurely morning drive back to Thimphu via Dochula Pass.
Enjoy hot stone baths and explore local cafés.
