The Mountain Goddess Trail
The Jomolhari Base Camp Trek, also known as The Mountain Goddess Trail, is one of Bhutan’s most scenic and rewarding Himalayan journeys.
This trek takes you deep into the mountainous wilderness of western Bhutan, beneath the sacred Mt. Jomolhari (7,326 m) — a peak revered as the abode of a protective goddess.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Paro – The Gateway to the Himalayas
Arrive at Paro International Airport, where you’ll be greeted by your guide.
Visit Rinpung Dzong, National Museum (Ta Dzong), and stroll through charming Paro town surrounded by traditional Bhutanese architecture.

Day 2: Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)
After breakfast, hike to the legendary Taktsang Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff 900m above the valley floor.
This iconic monastery is one of Bhutan’s most sacred pilgrimage sites and offers incredible views of Paro Valley.

Day 3: Paro to Shana (Trek Begins)
Drive to Drugyel Dzong, the historic fortress marking the old trade route to Tibet.
Begin trekking along the Paro Chhu River, passing through traditional farmhouses and forested paths.

Day 4: Shana to Soi Thangthangkha
Gradually ascend through mixed forest of rhododendron and birch, with the sound of rushing rivers beside you.
Trek Distance: 20 km | Time: 7–8 hrs | Camp Altitude: 3,750 m
Highlights: Alpine vegetation, waterfalls, glimpses of Mt. Jomolhari
Day 5: Soi Thangthangkha to Jangothang (Base Camp)
Trek through yak herder settlements and open valleys, with Mt. Jomolhari appearing majestically ahead.
Set camp at Jangothang Base Camp, one of Bhutan’s most scenic campsites.
Trek Distance: 19 km | Time: 5–6 hrs | Camp Altitude: 4,080 m

Day 6: Jangothang – Exploration & Acclimatization
A rest day to acclimatize and explore around Jangothang Base Camp.
Optional short hikes to Jomolhari Glacier or viewpoints of Jichu Drake and Tserim Kang peaks.
Overnight: Camp at Jangothang

Day 7: Jangothang to Soe Yaktsa
Begin descent through rhododendron forests and yak herder camps. The trail offers changing scenery and vibrant birdlife.
Trek Distance: 16 km | Time: 5–6 hrs | Camp Altitude: 3,800 m
Highlights: Highland villages, forest walk, peaceful campsite
Day 8: Soe Yaktsa to Thombu Shong – End of Trek
Climb to Thombu La Pass (4,380 m) for final stunning Himalayan views, then descend through alpine meadows before concluding your trek.
Drive back to Paro by evening.

Day 9: Thimphu Sightseeing – Capital of Bhutan
Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, blending tradition and modern life.
Visit Buddha Dordenma, Tashichho Dzong, Memorial Chorten, and Centenary Market.
Explore local craft shops and cafés in the evening.

Day 10: Excursion to Punakha Valley
Drive across Dochula Pass (3,100m) for panoramic Himalayan views. Descend into lush valleys to visit Punakha Dzong, Bhutan’s most beautiful fortress, and the Suspension Bridge.
Hike to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility) through scenic rice fields.

Day 11: Journey to Phobjikha Valley – The Glacial Bowl
Drive to Phobjikha Valley, home to the endangered Black-necked Cranes (winter visitors).
Visit Gangtey Monastery, enjoy a gentle nature trail walk through the glacial valley, and experience village life.

Day 12: Phobjikha – Paro
Drive back to Paro with scenic stops en route. The rest of the day is at leisure for last-minute shopping or relaxing.
